Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) has long been enjoyed as a fruity, mild-?avored beverage by the local indigenous people where it is grown in South Africa.
However, the recent discovery of its high antioxidant polyphenolic content has resulted in its rapid growth in popularity in the West and East as consumers seek to obtain benet from its health-giving properties.
The interesting facts about rooibos tea includes the vibrant amber colour of rooibos comes from the natural colour that develops during the post-harvest “fermentation” (oxidation) process, brought about by natural enzymes in the plant. Rooibos has no kilojoules. It ages well and can be stored for long periods without any deterioration in quality, flavour and taste.
In many countries, Rooibos is enjoyed as a hot or cold beverage without milk, with or without sweeteners. Many South Africans enjoy Rooibos as a hot beverage with milk, sweetened with sugar or honey.
Our Rooibos is harvested in the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa’s Western Cape. It has a unique sweet and deep russet colour which makes it an excellent naturally caffeine-free alternative to tea without any unpleasant side effects.
